Community Foundation Approves Grants

The Board of Directors of the Community Foundation of Switzerland County, Inc. is pleased to announce that they approved seven grant requests recently.  Organizations receiving grants are:

The Indian Creek Watershed Project was awarded $600 to be used for the Fairview Road Cleanup Project.

The Indiana State Police South Emergency Response Team was awarded $200 to purchase Eagle SAS M16 Magazine & Flash Bang Pouches.

The Salvation Army was awarded $1,000 for emergency needs of residents in Switzerland County.

Southeastern Indiana Independent Living Center was awarded $490 to cover the expenses for their Switzerland County Youth Outreach Disability Awareness Education Program to be held at the Switzerland County Elementary School.

The Switzerland County Awareness Team (SCAT) was awarded $1,000 to help with the start-up costs of having an office and staff person in Switzerland County.

The Switzerland County Health Assessment Project was awarded $200 to pay for food and miscellaneous expenses while Purdue University conducts a health assessment in the county.

The Switzerland County Historical Society was awarded $500 to help with expenses of the Conservator’s Holiday workshops.

 

These grants are made available from the following Community Funds: Community Foundation Board & Alumni Fund, William & Kathy Day Fund, Switzerland County Community Fund, Switzerland County Quality of Life Fund, Vevay Deposit Bank Fund, and the Vevay-Switzerland County Foundation Fund.  Community Funds provide the Foundation with the greatest flexibility in responding to the ever-changing community needs and grant requests from local nonprofit organizations.

In addition to the seven grants awarded from the Foundation’s Community Funds, the following grants were awarded earlier in the year from the Foundation’s designated funds.

Switzerland County FFA was awarded $100 from the Debbie Minch Memorial Fund to attend their annual Leadership Conference.

The Switzerland County High School Pacer Band was awarded $500 from The Pacer Band Fund to be used as needed.

The Switzerland County High School Pacer Band was awarded $180 from the Kevin McSwain Memorial Fund to be used as needed.

Switzerland County EMS was awarded $1,038 from the Delores M. Cole Memorial Fund to be used as needed.

The Switzerland County Animal Shelter was awarded $500 from the Switzerland County Animal Shelter Fund in memory of John A. & Hazel M. Danglade to be used as needed.

The Switzerland County YMCA was awarded $150 from the Vevay-Switzerland County Foundation Fund in memory of Ralph W. Tilley to be used as needed.                       

Developmental Services, Inc, Lifetime Resources, the East Enterprise Volunteer Fire Department, and Switzerland County School Corporation were all awarded a grant from their designated agency endowments put chose to put the grant back into their organization’s endowment fund so that the fund could grow at a faster rate.  In addition, the Switzerland County Commissioners put a portion of their grant back into the Switzerland County Quality of Life Fund.

The Community Foundation is continuing to offer grants of up to $1,000 for charitable programs/projects that benefit Switzerland County and its residents.  To make grant dollars available on a timely basis, there are no deadlines.  Grant requests will be reviewed and decided upon monthly.  Any request in by the 1st of each month will be notified of a decision no later than the end of that month.
